Well begun is half done.

Ever felt that you've started something important, and despite your best efforts, it felt as though you were pushing a heavy rock up a hill?  Nothing came of your efforts, or worse, you had to fight for everything, or with everyone, to get things moving?  Perhaps unknowingly you've chosen a day to start your event or activity - that wasn't at all suited to the event.

A Muhurta is used to set important dates to get maximum support for a good beginning

To Set an Important Date (Muhurta) is used to set a start date for anything you wish to begin well. Setting a wedding date, starting a business or partnership, moving to a new home, or selling your existing property, are just a few of the kinds of events that a Muhurta chart is useful for.

Certain days of the week are considered more auspicious than others for specific events.

For example, for a happy marriage, it's considered most auspicious to get married on a Friday, owned by Venus - a very good day for starting celebratory events involving love, joy and harmony.  Other days are also considered good, but Friday is ideal to maximize smoothness and begin the marriage well.

Unfortunately and unknowingly, many people in the western hemisphere choose to get married on a Saturday, as this is a weekend day, and considered more convenient for guest arrivals, and enjoying some time off before going back to work on Monday.

From the Jyotish perspective Saturday (Saturn day) is a good day for hard work, suffering and effort –but not a good day to get married, or to have harmonious love relationships.

Saturday marriages generally involve too much work and  not enough happiness from the Vedic Astrology perspective. Perhaps getting married on this day is why nearly 50% of marriages in North America end in divorce?

The same principle is true for starting a business, moving into your new home, selling your property, or any important event that you wish to start and proceed smoothly.  All events have specific days, and times that can offer greater support for success and are in tune with the positive laws of nature available.

Planning carefully can avoid obstacles and heart ache

Planning carefully to encourage maximum support from the laws of nature on the day you begin your important event can save time, avoid unnecessary heartbreak, and help ensure a smoother road to success.

A Muhurta - To Set an Important Date -can rescue the day

  • Details of the event are carefully taken into consideration as well as the parties involved

  • Attunement to the Natural Law supporting that event are also carefully considered

  • It generally takes between 2 - 4 hours of research to pick a date and time that is auspicious, suits the kind of event and falls within certain hours of the day at a specific location.  Therefore, only one event per Muhurta, please.

Be as specific as possible with the details of the planned event, including:

A window of time when the event can take place (earliest and latest) and when the event MUST happen (if applicable).

Example:  I must get married before 8 p.m. on any Friday within the next three months.

Example:  I need to get married on any other day than Saturday within the next two months.  Time of day is not really an issue, but I would prefer to get married after 8 a.m. and before 9 p.m.

There are many points that need to be considered

Have you considered registration office hours?  Usually businesses are incorporated within certain hours, Monday to Friday.  In some places, however, registration can take place on Saturday, on-line, or at any time.  Let me know which applies.

Are you open to considering an alternative time or date if an auspicious time is not available within your time frame?  For example, you wish to get married in two weeks,  I may discover that there are no really auspicious dates within that time, but in three weeks from now, there is an exceptional day.  If you let me know in advance about your flexibility, I can often serve you better

Remember to note the kind of event you are planning,  where it will take place, and between which hours

Example:  I need to incorporate a home staging business within the next 30 days, between 8:30 am - 4:30 pm, Monday - Friday, EST at London, Ontario.  The business will be incorporated in London, but operate in Fort Erie.  I will be the sole proprietor.

Example:  I want to sell my residence within the next three months.  I'm located in Bruderheim, Alberta, north of Edmonton.  What would be the best day to list the property with a Realtor?  The Realtor's offices are open between 10 - 6 pm,  Monday - Friday (MST).

Sample Cases

 1.  A client wished to sell one of her three properties in the next six months.  When would a good date be to list the property?

As the owner had three properties in two provinces, it is important to  advise me which of the properties is up for sale - residential, or business, and the exact location - example:  Victoria, B.C.
 2. A  client wished to set a wedding date within the upcoming year. Her family and friends were coming from abroad and the wedding had to occur on a Friday.

Important to let me know the location of the planned event, and what times during the day are good - mornings, afternoons, or evenings.  What is the latest time, and earliest time required.
3. A client was getting married suddenly and needed to set a date in two weeks.  Could Paula help select a good date for her wedding?

If there is very little time before an important date,  it becomes more challenging to find a good Muhurta.  There are usually  days which are considered good,  but some are better than others.  In this instance, when time is limited, it may come down to choosing between two less than ideal, but still acceptable times.  Try to give me as much advance time as possible to choose the best date to support your special event.

Dear Paula,

"I want to thank you for the Vedic Astrology Muhurta reading that you recently did for me to start a business. I felt well taken care of knowing that you were thoroughly examining all the possible charts to give an auspicious incorporation time. As you mentioned, I still have to go through the necessary activities to have a successful business. However, with the Muhurta you have chosen, I feel an extra blessing for this new beginning. I also found the background information you provided to support the Muhurta choice was both inspiring and informative. Once again, thank you!"
